Letter from the Editor

How did this happen?  How did a Seppo from a flyover state situated in the middle of flatland, USA end up editing Rock n Roll Australia Magazine?  It was music.  Specifically, the spell of Rock and Roll that permeates itself through the veins of all that encounter it.  From the shores of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sitting on Lake Erie, Ohio to North Queensland and everywhere in between – music creates bonds and shared experiences.  Lyrics change meanings twenty times in a row of twenty people and yet, everyone sings them as loud as they can.  Wait, did you want to know how a guy from Columbus, Ohio ends up here for real?

I am no stranger to Australia, having lived here from 1997-99 and regularly travel back to see lifelong friends, and amazing people that I pick up along the way who become part of my family.  I met most of the crew here at Airlie Beach.  We were shooting messages back and forth not too long ago and got talking about stories for the magazine.  They sent me a story, I told them what I thought… then another…soon another writer joins in… more stories… my hands are covered with ink (yeah, I’m old school that way, just ask them).  The next thing you know is we have a team, a bunch of good stories and a magazine that we hope you all enjoy.

Isn’t that how Rock n Roll works?  Isn’t that the vibe of all of it?  I wrote to a friend of mine once that music knows no boundaries.  It eclipses time and distance and brings people together in ways that continue to expand and evolve.  Music is the hook of life, I think.  It is the chorus in all of us, the riff that creates a huge smile and the solo that fills your heart with pure joy.  It is the crowd thumping together, the look on a musician’s face when they know they have made a connection.  It’s the ringing in your ears, working on a few hours sleep, and figuring out when you’ll get to go see them again.  It is all of that and more.

We hope you enjoy Rock n Roll Australia Magazine.   The team put their hearts into it, and the musicians we are so proud to cover put their souls into it.  We thank them for their gracious time, and we thank you for your patronage.  Long Live Rock!!!

Haasie.
